alphabet soup (odds and ends in a particular order)
"a very long engagement": i watched this last night for the first time and was pretty much floored. it covered everything i look for in a movie- dynamic characters, beautiful cinematography, quirky dialogue and a finally, a believable ending. bravo!
boingboing.net: ryan found it, but i laugh harder.
carpool lanes: they rule. unfortunately, i'm unable to drive in them only making my desire for them that much more.
duffle bus bags: please see entry entitled "baggage." see also: yakpak
elephantitis: hey, it's funny!
fox news: hey, it's even funnier!
gnome statues: i used to love these as a kid. and then a few years ago travelocity came out with a brilliant campaign where this kitchy lawn ornament showed up all over the world. (see here if you have no idea what i'm talking about). so what is he up to now?
"hotwax": by beck. yo soy un disco cabrado. yo tengo chicle en cerabo.
iqu: a once cleverly crafted group, i think they've seen better days. instead of checking out their latest, i recommend "teenage dream"(a bunch of really great remixes) or "chotto matte a moment" (their first full-length).
jenny and the jaws of life: a book of short stories by jincy willett i am currently reading. very witty and insightful but with a dash of despair.
krack heads: being one means you get all hopped up on junk and then proceed to talk in obnoxiously loud voices about how fucked up you are in front of ms. corna's apartment at 2:30 in the morning.
le tigre: i know, old news. but what was really cool was seeing them open for beck last month at the paramount where they played "deceptacon"! mediocrity rules, man.
macintosh apples: ipods, ipod minis, ibooks and powerbooks, oh my! and all with seamless brand management. i don't want to be like mike when i grow up, i want to be like steve.
new jersey kangaroo: are you sure? does he really fix vcr's? where is david?
opposite sex advertising: i usually don't condone using sex to sell a product but this is pretty good. please watch the actual ad to see what i mean.
public radio and tv (otherwise known as npr and kcts, but i've already used n & k): it seems like only yesterday where i was bowing out on social engagements in order to catch killer kcts specials on martin luther king, carey grant and diego rivera. lately, npr is my vice. whatever the reason, public access is for nerds. yes, i am a nerd.
qfc in woodinville (wood snohomish rd, to be exact): whenever i want to wait out traffic for another 15-20 minutes and just so happen to also need groceries, i hop in here after work. frequented by (seemingly) miserable stay-at-home moms with their whiny kids begging for "that" kind of fruit juice, i quickly came to two different conclusions. #1- never move to woodinville and #2- think long and hard before entering motherhood.
running: you get there faster. maybe not as fast as rollerbladers but come on, rollerblading?
sambuca: ok, not really.
twin peaks: season 1. who killed laura palmer? seriously.
underoos: spiderman, the flinstones, wonderwoman, and chewbacca have all made their way onto them. i'm just waiting for someone to come out with a michael jackson underoo. bloal.
vowell, sarah: "assasination vacation"- another book that is absolutely contagious. so far i've sneak read it at work, on the pot and stop-and-go traffic.
woody allen: i know a lot of movie buffs would disagree but i don't care. in my book, if you can be that neurotic, write refreshing scripts and still manage to hook up with your 18 year old adopt-a-child, you are down in my book.
x: um, x is great because it's x. la-dah-dah-duh-dah-de-dum!
yoo-hoo chocolate milk: how is it that they can continue selling a product like this? who buys this stuff?!
zeus: the youngest son of cronus and rhea, he was the supreme ruler of mount olympus and of the pantheon of gods who resided there. yep.

3 Comments:
Woody Allen wasn't her father, actually, as he and Mia Farrow were never married. He was more like her uncle.
IQU: Michiko Swiggs--keyboard player. She's the coolest. I went to school with her, and last time I was in seattle, she worked at the baltic room.
Word.
i had a friend that lived in kento oiwa's old place on beacon hill. the wall colors ranged from a deep, soothing blue in the living room to a pukey, limish-yellow in the bathroom. they also would get iqu fan mail every now and then. purty cool. . .
