Day 116 of Unemployment.

10.5 books, 26 movies, 85 hours of TV

I'm glad to report mild success on the job front. I've been given about 15 hours of freelance writing to do this next week by an entrepreneur Juice guy down in LA for his website. It sounds interesting and he's giving me a lot of "artistic freedom" so that's cool.

I've also been wanting to post these two artists for sometime because I think they are amazingly interesting and talented, although I know nothing about them. The first is a Belgium artist, Geraldine Georges, who incorporates graphic design and illustration beautifully.

The second artist is Lock Sin, a Malaysian-born illustrator. Again, I know nothing about her but she has some pretty awesome work up at her site as well as a mysteriously cute tote bag that doesn't seem to be for sale. Which is probably a good thing for me.

(Still) Day 107 of Unemployment

10.2 books, 23 movies, 81 hours of TV

I'm happy to announce that Ryan and I are now the proud parents to our very own freaky computer-generated baby, Little Dude Mattson!

Yes, it took a while- somewhere around 4 minutes including the time it took to find the right photos, but you can't rush German engineering.
I think I can speak for both the dad and I when I say we're really excited to forget that the two of us (and our photos) could ever create something as monstrous as Little Dude Mattson. Make and forget your very own here.

Day 107 of Unemployment.

10 books (okay, 2 of these were comic books), 23 movies, 80 hours of TV

Because I've been unemployed for over 100 days now it only makes sense that this blog post be dedicated to "reality" TV. If you can call it that anymore. To begin our descent into the the empty and superficial lives of MTV's most beloved, I raise the following question:

Does anyone else think that Whitney and Jay are shaping up to be the new Audrina and Justin Bobby?

And,

Does this revelation make anyone else feel ill?

The answers are obviously, yes and yes. (Bonus points if you agree you are sickened with MTV's thinly-veiled ploy to build the same couple archetype into every "reality" show of theirs while being altogether curious to find out if Jay does in fact have a motorcycle stashed away and turns out to be just as noncommittal as JB). I mean seriously, why do girls put up with guys like that? Okay, yes, they both have amazing facial hair. And they dress better than the average girl. But come on, they're not worth all the airtime that's spent talking about them by Audrina and Whitney. I'm sure even some of my family and friends who don't WATCH THAT TRASH would agree.

Oh and...Girl Power!

Day 86 of Unemployment.

6 books, 17 movies, 60 hours of TV

Hooray! It seems like on this unremarkable 86th day of unemployment, Ryan and I will be able to land in Portland, OR to visit mi familia. Even so, my happiness pales in comparison to the cuteness of this:

Also! I got some awesome (early) Christmas gifts from Ryan last night. These:

Mine are actually more of a tan color but just as BADASS looking. I also got these:

Yes, now I can look like a wannabe San Francisco hipster that doesn't live in the Mission District. And last, but not least, this:

'cause 2009 wouldn't be as cute without a "Pooped Puppies" calendar.

Day 75 of Unemployment.

5.65 books, 15.5 movies, 53 hours of TV

One thing about being unemployed is that certain days of the week take on new meaning. For instance, when you're working, Friday is undoubtedly the holiest day of the week. It's the day you crank out whatever work you've been sitting on for the past few days and long lunches are the norm. If you're lucky, there's free beer offered up around 5 o'clock and for the more family-oriented, a chance to duck out early. This all happens to be the complete opposite for those unemployed. Mondays are paramount. I would go so far as to say, I look forward to Mondays now. And even after 9 or so fruitless Mondays, the promise of a new week is addicting. You can almost feel the city sighing as the employed settle in at their desks Monday morning, ready to hire people (or most likely, lay people off). I've learned that Monday is the day more people are inclined to reach out and offer you advice and leads. Which is so much better than an empty inbox on Thursday/Friday.

Fortunately, the weekends are still pretty fun.

Random question: If you had to give an iguana a persona, what would it be? Like, would it be a he or a she? Would it be talkative or shy?  I'm just curious...
